Music Shout Out

Okay, this one is mainly due to the fact that I was "supposed" to go to their concert last week. Then Brad got put on the swing shift this month at the temple, so he doesn't get off work until 1am and get home at 2am Tuesday-Fridays. Therefore, I missed this concert and I wasn't about to go by myself. It was for Dashboard Confessional.
I love Dashboard Confessional. You do not have to worry about swear words, the lyrics actually MEAN something, and Chris Carrabba is super good-looking (in my opinion). I may have heard "Screaming Infidelities" first, but the first song that I actually listened to over and over was "Brilliant Dance". This song made me go out and buy "The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most". I was hooked. Dashboard is easily in my top five, if not three, favorite bands. "A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar" is also a great GREAT album. "Hands Down"- who cannot love that song? Spiderman soundtrack was graced with "Vindicated", which is tied with "Hands Down" in my book of wonderful songs.
To me, everyone should own SOME Dashboard songs- if you don't want the albums, you gotta have some songs burned on a disc! You will love them, trust me.
I am trying to pick out what music video I want on here... too many to pick from! I picked "Stolen" because the video is cool and Chris looks great. But I might change it... or add one. We'll see. Enjoy!

Music Shout Out

This is a little different because I am acknowledging a musical. It is one that EVERYONE should know and love. What musical? NEWSIES. Oh, do I love my Newsies. My siblings and I (mainly Rach and Craig) loved to rent this movie when we were younger. Christian Bale was probably my first celebrity "love"... still kind of is, but it is a very shallow "love". :)
Alright, in all seriousness, this musical is amazing. What perfect harmony these young boys have in the songs. I still get goosebumps on the last number singing. Racetrack is with young Les, waiting to see if any of New York City's underpaid labor children will join them in their justified cause. "When the circulation bell starts ringing, will we hear it?" "Nah" "What if the Delancey's come out swinging, will we hear it?" "NO!"... a slow build up of music as it climaxes to what sounds like hundreds of children singing, "When you've got a million voices singing, who can hear a lousy whistle blow?"
This movies was based on real events of the Newsboy Strike of 1889. Though I'm pretty positive there wasn't any singing or dancing involved, it just moves me how young orphans were able to stand up to a huge newspaper and change their world.
The way the songs are delivered is genius and the choreography is so much fun to watch! Thanks to my sister, I now own a copy of the soundtrack and love listening to it. It just gets me pumped. We recently painted our kitchen and we chose to listen to the Newsies soundtrack. So much freaking fun! It just makes you want to dance and belt your guts out. I mostly let Rachel sing and I mimicked her because I don't have the words quite memorized yet... I'm working on it. :) I love this movie and I love the music. I tried to find a video of one of the songs, but alas they are hard to find and I was unable to do so.
I close this with a simple line, "Go get 'em, Cowboy!"

Music Shout Out

When my brother, Craig, was a junior or senior in high school he bought his first car- the Relient. Or otherwise nicknamed, the Millenium Falcon. I was 'privileged' enough to be driven to my first year of high school in this car since he was a senior. During the winter, we would have to pour almost hot water on the windshield so he could actually navigate the thing. I was often late to school and actually received ISS(In School Suspension) due to these tardies. Sadly enough a few years later, the car had to be retired in California.
When my brother moved out a year after we did to Idaho to prepare for his mission, we decided to hit a music store. Thus we found RELIENT K. In rememberance of his car, Craig bought the CD and we all became fans. Here is my tribute to Relient K.
Relient K is a Christian rock/pop group. They have such different lyrics- one song it's about getting asked to a Sadies Hawkins dance, and the next is about God. They really balance singing about their faith and singing about NOTHING so well!
I'll confess, I do not own all of their CD's because I rarely buy CD's. I haven't even heard all of their albums. But what I have heard, I love. It's so refreshing to have a group who is not scared to declare that they believe in our Savior Jesus Christ and they know that there is a God and that He loves us. These days it is such a taboo to even talk about our faiths- so props to them for knowing what they believe in and singing it out loud! They may not belong to my faith, but we still share many of the same beliefs.
Right now I am listening to their album, "MmHmm". They are ALL great songs, but some of my favorites are: "My Girl's Ex-Boyfriend"(for special reasons) and "Which To Bury; Us or the Hatchet". Some other good songs from other albums are: "Maybe It's Maybelline", "For the Moments I feel Faint", "Failure to Excommunicate", "Chapstick, Chapped Lips and Things Like Chemistry", "I am Understood", and bunches more.
This is their video for "Who I am Hates Who I've Been"

Music Shout Out

I love music. I really do. Thus being said, I have decided to dedicate the occasional blog to music that I love. Whether it is what is in my CD player today, or what I listened to ten years ago, I am sharing my music interests. And I am a complete nerd because I am excited to do so.
Starting with the basics, let's give a shout out to my favorite band right now: Taking Back Sunday. I have loved them from their first album all the way up to their newest album, "Louder Now". What I love about all three of their albums is that each one is unique and you can tell the band grew with their music. It is most evident in the second and third album, mostly due to the fact that the second singer was replaced. The first album featured John Nolan, who has come to start his own band Straylight Run- but they'll be a different post. Adam Lazarra is the lead singer and he has some mad skills with the microphone- meaning watch out for your head! He swings the thing around his neck, throws it in the air and catches it... seriously crazy. I believe in England he injured a bandmate... all in good fun, right? The most popular song off of "Louder Now" is hands down "MakeDamnSure". Great song, fell in love with it the moment I heard it. But my favorite song off of the album is "My Blue Heaven". The blend of instruments is breath-taking and the climatic elements are incredible. Listen to it. Their second album, "Where You Want to Be", is also a great listen. Off of that album, I recommend listening to "Little Devotional" and "New American Classic". Taking Back Sunday, to me, is the perfect band to have blaring in your car stereo while you rock out incessantly.
*If you do not like all his talking, skip to like 3:25 in the video and the music will start soon after*
