Breaking Dawn

I was going to wait to read this book. But then the excitement from my friends anticipation got to me. I almost bought it, but I've been beyond paranoid about expenses these days so I resisted the temptation. Luckily, a friend from work finished her copy and I asked if I could borrow it. I got it last night, got home from work, made some yummy dinner, and started the book. Then this morning I got up, had some breakfast and started reading again. I finished it today. I am horrible at pacing myself, which is why I'm really glad I didn't start this at work (where I could get distracted) and able to have a Saturday to read. I am very pleasantly surprised at this book.
I had heard a lot of hype about the first three books and I thought I was going to really love it like everyone else. Nope. Don't get me wrong, they were good but I didn't get all the commotion going on about them. Twilight was my favorite of the three. I wanted to slap Bella HARD all the way through New Moon. And Eclipse I just felt bad for Jacob the whole time (who I love) and, again, wasn't the biggest fan of Bella. I really thought Breaking Dawn would be just like the rest- great plot, okay writing, but nothing amazing.
Breaking Dawn is the best book in the series. The writing was SO much better (I bet she got a new editor because I didn't notice the typos like I did in the other books!) and way more imagination. I'm not going to be too specific about it, I hate posting spoilers, but I really loved this book. This book makes me want to reread the series and actually buy them. That is saying a lot, with my attitude towards the books before this one.
Okay... I have to say some spoilers... some things that I really loved... so DO NOT READ ON if you haven't read the book yet... PLEASE!
- I was totally torn between who I loved more: Edward or Jacob, Jacob or Edward? Such great guys, in their own weird ways. I hated that Jacob was getting burned by Bella (time and time again...) so I was BEYOND happy when he finally imprinted. I thought it would gross me out that it was on a baby, but it didn't. It made total sense why he was so drawn to Bella. Happy ending for him! And she gets to age at an accelerated rate so he doesn't have to wait as long and, c'mon, she is way beyond her years!
- Bella didn't freak as a newborn! Sure, she had her moments but she was relatively in control. I was wondering how Meyers would have that work out- didn't seem really appealing to read about a girl controlling her carnal urges for a year. Good work there.
- Nobody died. I'm so emotional these days, it's good I didn't have to read about characters dying. It didn't make sense that anyone needed to die. Oh- and Bella expanded her power! That was awesome.
- The werewolves/shape shifters and vampires formed more of a bond than a treaty. I was tired of the shape shifters grudge towards the Cullens', because they were obviously different. I was also proud of Jacob becoming Alpha and doing the right thing against Sam.
I think that is all the good I feel like sharing from the book. I have more, but this will do. I need to keep some for discussions with people. All in all, good book!

  2. I remember the days when I could do nothing but sit and read the hours away...now I get my reading done in sentence by sentence chunks. Needless to say, it's quite difficult to get into a novel these days!

  3. I'm SO happy that you loved the last book! It is my favorite too. And i was getting kinda down because so many people were complaining about the imprinting and stuff, but i loved all of it. And I also like that you too noticed about the typos in the other books. it kinda annoyed me that they weren't caught. I think I remember at least one in the last book as well, but nothing like the others. :)
