There is no better friend than a sister. And there is no better sister than you.

Sisters, sisters
There were never such devoted sisters...
Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing...
All kinds of weather, we stick together
The same in the rain and sun
Two different faces, but in tight places
We think and we act as one
Those who've seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us
Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can
Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister
And lord help the sister, who comes between me and my man
- Irving Berlin, White Christmas
"Sisters don't need words. They have perfected a language of snarls and smiles and frowns and winks - expressions of shocked surprise and incredulity and disbelief. Sniffs and snorts and gasps and sighs - that can undermine any tale you're telling."
-Pam Brown
This last weekend was spent with most of my family in Utah. My mom, Rachel, and I drove out on Thursday to drop Rach off at BYU for her last year of college. Rach decided to spend this last summer out here in California at my parents house where Brad and I also live. It was a FABULOUS summer... even though I didn't feel good all the time and we had our share of tiffs, it was a summer to remember. We kickstarted the summer perfectly by going down to Disneyland with just us girls. From there, the summer was just wonderful. Not like we did a whole lot, which we kind of did, but just the time we were able to spend together and do the things we used to do was special.
My sister is my best friend. We are different and the same in the best of ways. Somehow, we used to ALWAYS get asked if we were twins- to this day, we still do not understand how people can think we are twins. To us, we are spirit twins. We are connected in a unique sisterly way that I wouldn't trade for anything. She is the level-headed of the two of us while I am all emotion and drama.
To my sister- I am so happy you decided to come home for the summer. I am so proud of you for being the first of us siblings to graduate from college. You have worked so very hard. I am glad that we were best friends from the moment you were born and we still are. I know I am your 'big' sister, but I look up to you so much. I am going to miss you like crazy (I already do), but I know you are where you need to be. There is so much I want to say to you, but it is all jumbling inside of my head. Simply put, I love you and I know you have tremendous amount of potential to take the world by storm. I love you, little one.

"Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other."

  1. Sister are great! You and Racheal remind me of Susie and I. You guys even look the same. Now you need to have babies of your own and hope for two little girls like me. I am really looking forward to see how Grace and Sophia turn out. I loved the poems too. Now that Racheal is at school go hang out with Susie. She needs an older sister.
