Under the Moonlit Trees

Eight years ago today, Brad asked me to marry him. And I said yes :)

May 3, 2004
When we were dating, we spent a lot of our days together because Brad worked nights. This day, however, we spent mostly apart. My morning started with a trip to the Sacramento airport to pick up my older brother, Craig. He was coming home from serving his mission in Mexico. Brad was spending his morning in San Francisco with his sister, picking out my ring. Even though I knew he was getting my ring, I really didn't think he'd propose the same day. It was too obvious... right?
After we had gotten settled at home, Brad came over to re-meet Craig (which went well, yay!). Brad said he had the ring with him, so I was promptly told to leave the room so everyone else could sneak a peek. I unwillingly obliged.

The night before I had wanted to go for a walk, but hadn't been able to. At this time, Brad was not a fan of walks so when he offered to go on one with me to make up for the night before, I jumped at the opportunity. It was a beautiful night. May nights in California... perfect. There is a park about two or three blocks away from my parent's house so that was our destination. We stopped on the downside of a hill and talked... and talked... and talked. I thought, "He has to do this now. He'd be stupid to not do it now. It's too perfect." but all too soon, we were back up and going down the hill and across the park. "He screwed that up. He missed the perfect night." I seriously thought he wasn't going to do it because he had missed the golden opportunity. We walked under a small group of trees, where the moonlight streamed through the branches. Brad let go of my hand, claiming he needed to tie his shoes (what a line...). I went to grab his hand back, but he had it clenched in a fist. Oh. My. Goodness- here it comes! Brad got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I am pretty sure he said other, wonderful things but I don't remember it at all. He slipped the ring onto my finger and I excitedly said, "Yes!!" We hugged... probably kissed... and I ran up the hill to the streetlight so I could see what the heck was on my finger. Good job, Brad. Good job. I was so beyond happy, so happy to be at this point and looking forward to being married to my best friend.

  1. Good story! You two look so young in your engagement pics (not that you look old now. I just couldn't picture you looking younger.)!
